Ryan Elliott, M.Ed., is the Founding Principal of Elevate Elementary. He is thoroughly enjoying the opportunity to develop all elements of Elevate – along with an exceptional Board and volunteer team - in preparation for September, 2014. Most recently, Mr. Elliott served as an administrator at Jean Farb Middle School in Tierrasanta. While at Farb, Mr. Elliott balanced numerous roles and responsibilities related to the day-to-day functioning of the school, ensuring a safe learning environment and exercising instructional leadership by facilitating professional development with the math department on the Common Core State Standards. Mr. Elliott’s leadership style is grounded in the core elements of proactively creating an environment for positive behavior and forming strong partnerships both within the school and with its outside partners. Cultivating strong relationships with and between parents and teachers is essential in supporting students to realize their full potential.
Previous to his position at Farb, Mr. Elliott was a teacher at Roosevelt International Baccalaureate Middle School (SDUSD) for six years. Mr. Elliott’s daily passion was to create a learning environment in which students were equipped with the academic, social emotional, and problem-solving tools they need to be 21st century leaders. Consistent with the International Baccalaureate philosophy, Mr. Elliott strived to regularly connect classroom learning to both the immediate and global context. Mr. Elliott served as math department chair and as a member of the Instructional Leadership Team, and was a member of the first cohort (’11) of the Aspiring Administrators collaboration between SDUSD and San Diego State University.
Mr. Elliott started his teaching career in the Boston Public Schools and has spent his entire career working with diverse populations to ensure equity and success for all students. Prior to teaching, Mr. Elliott worked for Harvard University’s RALLY program (Responsive Advocacy for Life and Learning in Youth), partnering with teachers to identify and address social-emotional issues that hindered student’s classroom learning. Mr. Elliott led a school-community consortium which collaborated with local agencies to increase student access to health, mental health, and after-school services, seeking innovative solutions to longstanding problems by leveraging strategic partnerships.
Mr. Elliott received a Bachelor of Arts in Human Development from Cornell University and a Master of Education in Risk and Prevention from Harvard University’s Graduate School of Education.
