Ms. Kathy, our School Counselor, challenges students to lead a Family Circle Time as they connect to Habit #4, Think Win-Win.

Hi, Elevate students and parents. This is Kathy Kirk your school counselor. I miss seeing all of your smiling faces and hope that you are feeling healthy and staying in the green zone. I also hope that over spring break you took some time to refresh yourself, enjoy some sunshine, and create some special memories as a family. As we enter into this new season of distance learning here are Elevate, I want to encourage all of you students to work hard, stay focused, and keep a growth mindset. This week, our habit of the week is Habit 4: Think Win-Win. What I like to say about this habit is that it's not about you, and it's not about me. It's about we. When we think win-win, we work together to come up with creative ways to solve a problem or a conflict, so that in the end everybody wins. Well, one way we can do this is by listening to each other and having an opportunity to share. And so with that, I want to give you a leadership opportunity. Do you remember when I came into your class and led a circle time? Well, my challenge to you is to lead a Family Circle Time. All you need to do is set aside a time when you can come together in a circle - maybe you're going to meet at the dinner table, or just simply sitting on the floor in the family room. Don't forget that you need to have a talking piece. This is something special that you're going to be willing to pass around so that whoever is holding it has everybody else's undivided attention as they share. Here are some questions that maybe you might want to ask during your Family Circle Time. Maybe you can start by asking, "How are you feeling right now?" and everyone can share one word. Another question would be, "If you could choose any animal that describes you, what would it be and why?" This is a fun way to find out some more information from each other. Then you might ask, "What's one way I can think win-win this week?" And if you have time, you might close your Circle Time by asking, "What is something that you need from me this week?" If you have time, I'd encourage you also to play family game together afterwards and just have some fun and practice those thinking win-win skills. If you choose to take me out on this leadership opportunity, I want to remind you that you can fill out a leadership reflection sheet that your teacher has posted on their website. Before I go, I want to share with you about an exciting opportunity that Miss Madeline and I will have for each of you. We will be starting friendship connect groups through Zoom, for every grade level, every week. I will be sending out more information regarding this and my open office hours that I will be having, so that I can connect with students and with parents. I hope that you have a great start to this next week as we begin a new season together. As we close our assemblies, I want to close our time together today. Would you join me?
