Supporting Elevate's Military Students

Hi! My name is Allison Donahoe-Beggs and I am the Child and Youth Behavioral Military and Family Life Counselor (MFLC) with Elevate School. I'm here to help students of military families feel happy, safe, and confident at school.

I provide confidential non-medical counseling support to help service members and their families navigate challenges and build resilience. What is non-medical counseling? It is providing strength-based and solution-focused assistance in addressing issues encountered by military families and children. Diagnosis and treatment are outside of the MFLC's scope. MFLCs can assist with feelings identification, self-esteem issues, communication and relationships at home or at school, behavioral issues, or adjustment to changes such as moving, deployments, or divorce.

You may hear students talk about "Lunch Bunch" - a time when military-connected students and I eat lunch together, do activities, and support one another. It gives them a chance to be with peers who understand their experiences. I also meet with small groups or individual students as needed to talk about big feelings (like worry, frustration, or excitement), how to problem-solve and be kind friends and leaders. We might play games, read books, or do activities that help us grow.

Please be on the lookout for our next Military Coffee event - a wonderful way to connect with other Elevate military families and learn about military family resources and support. The date will be posted in an upcoming Elevate News or you can visit the military family section of our school website here.

It is such a joy to provide support at all three campuses in groups and individually. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to reach out to me - my contact information is below. For additional support for military families, Military One Source is a helpful resource - (800) 342-9647 / www.militaryonesource.mil
