| Middle School STEAM with Mr. Linnik |
It’s a busy time of the semester for students in middle school STEAM classes. As we are just coming off of spring break, we are in our final push preparing our projects for our end of the year exhibition night. The following is a breakdown of what we are currently working on!
Our 8th grade students have partnered up with Ms. Perry’s kindergarteners, and are in the process of creating custom e-textile monsters that the kinder-buddies designed earlier in the semester. Right now, we are in the final stages of assembly - finishing up all of the final details and stitches, and are starting to begin work on our monster bios and backstories.
7th grade students are actively engaged in our coding unit. Currently, they are in the process of developing their own custom video games. The majority of our students have coded the basic foundation of their games and are working on adding in all of the little details to engage and hook their players, as well as de-bugging their existing code.
Last but not least, our 6th graders have just finished up their graffiti project in which they designed and created custom wooden graffiti letters, many of them using our wood working tools for the first time. This week we are transitioning into our final engineering project of the semester, designing and creating custom marble machines to compete in a series of challenges.
Mr. Linnik Grades 6-8 STEAM Teacher |
It’s hard to believe we’re at this point in the year, but California State Testing is just around the corner. All students, grades 3-8 will begin testing on Monday, April 27.
I want to take a moment to share how important this time is for our school community—and how we can partner together to support your child. These assessments give us valuable insight into your child’s academic growth, highlight areas of strength, and help us tailor instruction to meet their needs. While testing is just one snapshot of a student’s progress, it’s also an opportunity for them to show what they’ve learned and celebrate how much they’ve grown.
At home, there are several ways you can help set your child up for success:
- A good night’s sleep and a healthy breakfast are essential for helping students stay focused and energized.
- Encourage a calm morning routine with plenty of time to get to school.
- Please limit video games.
- Help ease any anxiety by practicing mindfulness techniques together, like deep breathing or quiet time before bed.
Most importantly, let your child know that you believe in them. Providing plenty of positive encouragement goes a long way. You can remind them that their effort matters and that you are so proud of how hard they are working.
Please know that our team is here to support every student, and we approach this time with care, confidence, and the belief that every child has something to be proud of.
Thank you for being our partners in your child’s education—we are so grateful to work alongside you.
 Desiree Wooden Assistant Director
Students in grades 3-8 are encouraged to bring in headphones with cords for state testing (please bring them to school by Monday, April 27). Students prefer using their own, and we want them to be most comfortable. Headphones must have a cord. No cordless bluetooth headphones are allowed for testing. If your child does not have headphones with a cord, we will loan them a school headphone. However, students generally do not prefer to use those.
If you have any questions, please ask your child’s teacher. |
